What this scam is

You get an urgent 'Apple security' alert that your Apple ID or iCloud has been locked or accessed, urging you to call a number or click to verify. A fake 'Apple advisor' then asks for your Apple ID password and the two-factor code, or has you buy gift cards to 'restore' the account. With your Apple ID, they can lock your devices, access photos and backups, and demand ransom. Apple does not call you unsolicited or ask for your password or codes.

What it usually looks like

A pop-up, text, or call about your Apple ID/iCloud being locked or breached.
A number to call an 'Apple advisor.'
Requests for your Apple ID password and 2FA code.
Instructions to buy gift cards to 'unlock' the account.
